È grande e comodo , invece , il pullman che ci accompagna nel tratto che manca per raggiungere il borgo dove siamo diretti , lambendo boschi oppure appezzamenti in cui si susseguono ordinati viti e ulivi . I secondi , in particolare , sono un indizio , perché oggi a Trequanda si celebra la Festa dell ’ Olio Novo , dove l ’ assenza della “ u ” dall ’ aggettivo è faccenda toscana che porta dritti al più bravo di tutti , tanto che ce lo ricordiamo come “ sommo ”. Poco più avanti , quando arrivati sulla piazza di Trequanda cominceremo a degustare i tanti oli proposti dai produttori della zona , si riproporrà la questione della “ u ”: si potrà dire che è “ buono ”, oppure “ bono ”, destination is Trequanda , which adds to the day ’ s excitement because we will be getting off at what we are told is the smallest station in Italy . Hanno invece per destinazione due laghi , e promettono entrambi un ’ esperienza di viaggio che fonde l ’ immersione nella natura con il tuffo nel passato , il Lario Express e il Sebino Express . Gestiti in tutti e due i casi da Fondazione FS , i treni partono da Milano e raggiungono rispettivamente il Lago di Como , dove il viaggio può proseguire in battello , e il Lago d ’ Iseo , attraverso la Franciacorta e i suoi paesaggi di vigneti e colline a picco sul blu . Meraviglie del treno , e dello sguardo unico che può offrire su quello che c ’ è tutto intorno .

Whether they scale mountains following curvilinear trajectories or cross landscapes to arrive at the shores of a sparkling lake , railway lines of special beauty are a genre apart , and are increasingly gaining acceptance and visibility in the kaleidoscopic world of travel . One example , among many possible options , is the Vigezzina-Centovalli route , which the prestigious Lonely Planet guidebook has included in its Top 10 most spectacular European railways . It has done so in the very year in which the train connecting Piedmont and Switzerland , travelling from Domodossola to Locarno through alpine landscapes and magnificent valleys , celebrates its centenary , confirming its position as a real gem for lovers of slow tourism , eco-sustainability and the world of nature . On the other hand , the Lario Express and the Sebino Express have lakes as their destinations , and both promise a travel experience that blends an immersion in nature with a plunge into the past . Operated in both cases by the FS Foundation , the trains leave from Milan , with one travelling to Lake Como , where the journey can be continued by boat , and the other to Lake Iseo , through Franciacorta and its landscapes of vineyards and peaks overlooking the blue of the waters . Travelling by train provides a unique vantage point you won ’ t find anywhere else .
