Southern Hemisphere Super 18 Rugby

Nearly half way through the competition there are no real surprises on the current overall table. Early in the competition the NZ Highlanders lost 3 games out of 4 but and sit at the bottom of the NZ conference table. They can however, remain in contention for a wild card spot if they continue to win their remaining games. After a promising start, the Blues have been their usual“ what if” team and must be causing their coach many a sleepless night before each game. The Hurricanes, Crusaders and Chiefs continue to roll on as usual from last season and will be preparing for their encounters midyear against the British and Irish Lions.
The Brumbies sit on top of the Australian table even with a 2 win 3 lose tally. Bonus points have kept them on front of local rivals the Waratahs. The Force continues to show enthusiasm each week even with a 1 win 4 loss tally. It would be a pity to see this team removed from the Super rugby competition. The Waratahs and Red are currently 2-3, 1-5 and see no real change here for the rest of their seasons. The Rebels will continue to be thrashed; pity there isn’ t a game against the Sun wolves to confirm outright winners of the wooden spoon.
The South African conferences continue with their local derbies, the Sun wolves showing no improvement from last season and will race the Rebels for the wooden spoon this year. The Jaguares however have, winning 4 in a row to be second in the Africa 2 table and a wild card chance at present for the playoffs. The Lions, Stormers, Sharks and Sharks continue their performances from last year, while the Southern Kings and Cheetahs struggle mid / lower table.
