THE FUTURE OF LOCKSMITHING AND THE MASTER LOCKSMITH ASSOCIATION

» IN DECEMBER 2023 WE CONDUCTED a survey of the 385 practicing locksmiths and those working in the wider security services industry , with a mixture of members and non-members of the MLA .
The 15-minute online questionnaire aimed to identify the industry ’ s needs and the MLA ’ s role in supporting and addressing those needs .
We wanted to take this opportunity to give a massive thanks to all those of who participated . We have been absolutely thrilled with the level of response and the insights we ’ ve gained are invaluable to the future of the association and industry .
We are working very hard to review all the responses and develop a strategy
for the MLA that meets the current and future demands of our members and the wider industry . Our next steps will include some online workshops with groups of respondents to delve into some areas in a little bit more detail . Overall , we feel that the future is bright , and we look forward to providing updates on this to you in the future !

Women in Locksmithing

Helping the industry thrive .
» ALONG WITH MANY other trades , locksmithing has traditionally been very male dominated . However more and more women are starting to make their mark in our industry , and we want to celebrate that .
Women ’ s attention to detail , patience , and communication skills offers a unique viewpoint to the industry , and these qualities are proving to be invaluable .
Jessica Calpin of MLA Approved Company , Unico Locksmiths , and recipient of the GAI Pinnacle Award , says her most memorable experience so far has been designing and building a master suite for a local business . “ This was the first master suite I had designed on my own , and we built it ourselves ,” she recalls . “ This particular master suite featured every different variation of cylinders , padlocks , camlocks , etc . They were thrilled with the final product , and it was a great moment to see it all come together and work in a practical environment .”
And it ’ s not just the female locksmiths who are making an impact . There are many women who run the office , behind the scenes , providing vital support to the company , the engineers , and their customers .
At Dennis Security , Joanna asks customers to email a photo of their faulty lock , enabling her to identify the lock and pass the details on to the engineer . This allows her to provide a quote without needing to visit the site , freeing up more time for the engineers and aiding in the smooth flow of operations .
