» IN OCTOBER 2024 , THE MLA launched its first ever award recognising Women in Locksmithing – The Val Stokes Award . Val has played a significant role in paving the way for women in the industry , including being the MLA ’ s first female president , and this award celebrates her achievement .
Emma Allen , the MLA ’ s Group Marketing Officer , was honoured to be the very first winner of this prestigious award , with the
Association ’ s board having bestowed it upon her due to her having had such an impact on the association in a short period of time , with a noticeable increase in the amount and quality of marketing and promotional materials .

Become a Level 4 Qualified Master Locksmith
» OUR BRAND-NEW PROGRAMME IS aimed at those looking to begin a career as a locksmith and will guide you on the journey to become a successful Qualified Master Locksmith .
This could be ideal if you have new members of staff whom you need to train . It will leave you confident in the knowledge that they have been trained to a high standard , which you can then build upon with further practice and guidance .
As a Qualified Master Locksmith , you ’ ll have completed the programme with a nationally recognised qualification : A Level 4 certificate in General Locksmithing . The MLA qualification is the highest-level locksmithing qualification available and is Ofqual regulated and certified by ABBE ( the Awarding Body of the Built Environment ).
Start your locksmithing journey with confidence through our comprehensive
programme . You ’ ll enrol onto our 5 Day Beginners Course , Level 2 Opening training and Exam Preparation Day that with added time and experience will lead you up to take our MLA exam . You ’ ll also get FREE Course Notes to help you practice ahead of the exam . In addition , to support you during your learning experience , the programme includes two years registered membership of the association providing access to a range of support tools including regional meetings and our Keyways journal .
Once you pass the MLA exam you ’ ll be awarded with a qualification and will be able to claim to be an MLA Qualified Master Locksmith , and , if self-employed work , towards becoming an MLA Approved Company . The programme cost is £ 2,650 saving you £ 822.20 .
