GLOBAL PUBLIC SCHOOL 2021
Summer holidays during the
lockdown
Meera Rajeev [ 10A ]
This year the last day of school was not as memorable as it used to be . There were no hugs , kisses or goodbyes . Because no one knew that it was the last day . Not one imagined the world shutting down because of a tiny microscopic organism . But alas ! That ’ s exactly what happened . Even though I didn ’ t know it was the last day of school , it still reminded me of the two sweetest words in the English language , Summer Holidays .
Summer holidays started with the school closing down due to the Covid-19 virus . Little did I know that it would not open again for almost one year . Nevertheless , summer holidays carried on . It was as usual . Lazing under trees , cycling , icecreams , lemonades and plans to build a treehouse that never works . But another thing was added on to that list , washing your hands and sanitizing . Just like that soap and hand sanitizer became the 4th and 5th members of our family . The year was not going well . All around the globe , the virus was spreading like wildfire . And one fine day , lockdown was announced in India .
Netflix and Amazon prime replaced theatres . Monopoly was popular once again . Evenings were dedicated to the news hour on TV . The top recommended google search became “ what to do when bored ”. Everyone unleashed their creativity through various online platforms . Forests became lush green and the citizens were able to breathe pure oxygen again . Everyday , we experimented with a new dish and sat down to play cards . Photoshoots and designing masks became a new hobby . Our house garden bloomed one more time . And my creativity level was at its peak . But needless to say , millions of people were suffering and there were days in which I feared for the world . Many people were unemployed . Thousands of people were dying . But these problems created a unity among people I had never witnessed before .
Kitchens were made for people without food and ration kits were distributed among the people of Kerala . It rekindled hope in our minds . Summer ended just like that and the world covered itself in masks and gloves .

School started again but without classrooms , arguments , laughter and friends . Three hours in front of the computer was now called school . But at the end of the day , we just move on with hope and prayers that the world will be what it once was .
