A few of them worth mentioning are Cinderella ( 2015 ), Beauty and the Beast ( 2017 ), Aladdin ( 2019 ) and the worst of them all , The Lion King ( 2019 ).
Starting off with Cinderella , Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin , which are all retellings of their same , respective stories , all containing the same fantastical elements and all having the same endings . This manages to preserve the charm of the original while playing it out in ultra HD , however this takes away from the rush of emotions at the end of the movie , that hits you quite unexpectedly , rather you are quite prepared for the ending and seem to fall into a dull monotony as the movie draws to a close .
And now to address the elephant , or rather , lion , in the room , the horrifying remake of the Lion king .
The first thing you notice is the lack of emotion on every animal ’ s face , there are no smiles , nor tears of joy as the whole of the Savannah witnesses the presentation of the lion cub .
Emotional portrayal , is simply not possible with CGI animals and many will agree with me that the emotional aspect of this particular movie is the foundation on which it ’ s story is told , not having that takes away from the whole experience
Many of the songs as well are reduced to dialogue supplemented by a musical background , for instance the song ‘ Be Prepared ’, an iconic piece in the original , was reduced to sound like a war speech in the remake .
So , I shall conclude like this , remakes have the ability to revive movies , however this only happens when one can strike the right balance between preserving the old and including the new . But unfortunately , Disney is yet to do so .
