Books vs . Kindle How a single company changed reading forever

Atman Rajesh [ 9B ]

Books have been around for centuries . The first book is believed to be the Epic of Gilgamesh , the story of a Mesopotamian hero , which dates back to before the 18th century B . C . The first e-book , however , has been with us for a mere 30 years . In this article , we shall be deliberating the benefits and drawbacks of both . This work will not identify a “ winner ” among the two as it all depends upon the preference of the customer . With that being said , let ’ s begin !

Books
There is not a single person who has fully involved themselves into / with the modern world and has not read a book . Books have become a sort of fundamental in our lives . They are commonplace regardless of your age , profession , region or simply your everyday proceedings . Books are everywhere . Books are a way to escape from the world . They are a chance to slow down in this fastpaced world . Books provide unforgettable experiences that can influence our daily decision-making and enhance our personalities .
So , why am I telling you that the best way to read a
book ( in this section ) is a hardcopy ? Well , because I have some valid reasons . A book can help improve retention of information , also known as your memory . Studies show that more than half of ebook readers forget key parts of the plot of a book as time passes , whereas all of those who read the same story in a paper medium had a clear memory of the entirety of the plot . Now you know exactly why you know the plot to the stories you read as a child years back and yet forget the “ background ” characters of the last e-novel you read . On the note of children , books also enhance fine motor skills , hence its encouraged use among infants and toddlers . It helps them with their hand-eye coordination and the use of their hands to conduct small , precision tasks like flipping a page or closing and opening a book .
Books are also hugely soughtafter due to the simple fact that this is the digital age . With the world turning digital and LED screens popping up everywhere , people prefer to read from an object that does not emit its own light . Books provide a much-needed “ detox ” to the vision of people living in the present age . Devices also tend to emit blueviolet light , which causes damage to the retina when under increased exposure . Dry eye , a medical condition caused by increased exposure to screens with symptoms of dry and irritated or itchy eyes , has skyrocketed in numbers since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic .
Books also hold aesthetic value and help develop a more comfortable atmosphere . Books or bookshelves have a calming effect on people and provide a quick sneakpeek into a persons ’ choice of reads . Cover art and story illustrators make a living by making books beautiful on the outside as well . Libraries and bookstores are often compared to safe havens and places to unwind without judgement or to quietly disappear into another reality . Books can also be great conversation starters and weapons of socialising in the manner of book clubs and fan groups . Everybody likes a good book .
But what about a good e-book ? E-Books
As far as definitions go , an e-book is merely a book on a screen . In terms of experience , there is more to it than what meets the eye .
The e-book is the apparent literary choice of the modern homo sapien . More particularly , the Kindle . Ever since its release back in 2007 , the Kindle has redefined
