Why
Kerala is
‘Gold’s
own
country?
Kerala is known as Gods Own Country but in fact it is Gold’s
Own Country too. Universally the demand for gold is always
inversely proportional to the board rates. But in Kerala it is
slightly different. The affection for gold started since Roman
times. Kerala had several trading ports and was one of the
main hubs for spices.
The spices from the shores of Kerala were so valuable that the
Europeans had no qualms exchanging them for Gold. Thus, for
the Keralites Gold became a metal of prestige and pride. The rich
kingdoms of Kerala treasured their gold and a fine example of it is the
Padmanabhaswamy temple located in the capital city.
