NOV 46 2 0 1 8 Why Kerala is ‘Gold’s own country? Kerala is known as Gods Own Country but in fact it is Gold’s Own Country too. Universally the demand for gold is always inversely proportional to the board rates. But in Kerala it is slightly different. The affection for gold started since Roman times. Kerala had several trading ports and was one of the main hubs for spices. The spices from the shores of Kerala were so valuable that the Europeans had no qualms exchanging them for Gold. Thus, for the Keralites Gold became a metal of prestige and pride. The rich kingdoms of Kerala treasured their gold and a fine example of it is the Padmanabhaswamy temple located in the capital city.
