“ We set up a thing in The Woods ; we call it the heart of The Woods . We set up a dandelion flower and connected with nature , thinking about what this land would have been like 500 years ago and who or what would have walked on this land .” – Tineke , Grade 5

A Greener Future

RESTORING THE WOODS
The woodland at Crofton House School has always been a special place for students to play and learn . It provides a natural environment for plants , animals and birds and a green space to improve air quality and reduce noise in the neighbourhood .
In 2022 , efforts began to restore and preserve this area . Over the past 10 months , new trees have been planted , invasive species removed , and native plants and wildlife reintroduced . Led by Head Gardener , Marc Stewart who has cared for the green spaces on campus for over 20 years , three protected areas have been created . Junior School students were able to support the restoration of the space they love by helping with much of the planting . This ongoing project will help ensure The Woods continue to be a magical and restorative place for generations to come .
A thoughtful and inspirational gift from the Leggat family , who have a three-generation tie to Crofton House , established this vital initiative .
The School is working towards creating a named fund to allow the CHS community to preserve The Woods for future students and ensuring that this integral space remains a distinguishing feature of a Crofton House education .
