DISCOVERING Their Path

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AT CROFTON HOUSE SCHOOL
Crofton House School provides a supportive community for girls to be courageous , creative and engaged — preparing students for what ’ s beyond the ivy walls and giving them the tools they need to discover their potential with a strong sense of purpose and confidence . Whether students ’ interests lie in the arts , sciences , humanities or athletics , the CHS community is one where they can explore passions and strive for their best selves .
Nirvana and Gabby , who graduated in June , joined Crofton House in Grade 8 , and took two exciting , individual paths through the School .
GABBY ’ S PATH
Gabby came to CHS aspiring to a leadership role within the School . “ We have so many different opportunities to be a leader here . Even if you aren ’ t the most extroverted , you can still be a leader on a smaller scale , which is important ,” she said .
In Grade 8 , Gabby participated in various club meetings and the volleyball program , eventually finding her place in the Business Club — where she ’ s been a member throughout her Senior School experience . “ The
Business Club has carried on my passion for that area of study , which I will pursue in the future .”
She also found that much-anticipated leadership opportunity through Empowering Tomorrow ’ s Leaders , a Senior School club where members discuss issues that contribute to gender inequality and plan initiatives that help raise awareness and increase equality . Gabby was Club Captain in both Grades 11 and 12 . “ I just wanted to be a voice for the people afraid to step out on a stage and feel heard . I wanted to be a platform for them and to know that you don ’ t have to be the loudest voice in the room to be a leader .”
Academically , Gabby was drawn to computer science , math and microeconomics , taking several AP classes in her final years at CHS .
NIRVANA ’ S PATH
The campus and school environment were reasons for Nirvana choosing CHS for her high school experience . “ I toured the courtyard and knew — it ’ s so beautiful . There ’ s so much nature , so many places you can go to study . There are so many spaces for you just to be yourself or find other people with the same interests as you ,” she said .
Nirvana ’ s family heard about Crofton House from Nirvana ’ s pediatrician , whose daughter is a CHS alumna and who pointed out the unique theatre program at the School and the musicals on campus — an area of particular interest to Nirvana .
When she joined CHS , it was in Debate Club and Model United Nations ( MUN ) where Nirvana initially found her place in the Crofton House community , though she held various leadership roles throughout her time at Crofton House . “ I didn ’ t have a debate club in my elementary school or anything like that ,” Nirvana explained . “ Through MUN at CHS , we travelled around ; we were competing in all these competitions with all these different kids — it was just such a fun and cool experience . And I enjoyed MUN because you get away for the weekend ; it ’ s new people — making some new friends and engaging in debate activities .”
That said , her favourite co-curricular activity was theatre . “ It ’ s such a great program . Ms Burgess and Ms Van Rijn are amazing directors who make you feel welcome . It doesn ’ t matter your ability or where you ’ re at . You ’ re always going to feel included in the program , and it always ends up feeling like a family at the end of the year .” Throughout her time at Crofton House , Nirvana acted in various productions , including Into the Woods , Shakespeare in Love , this year ’ s production of Addams Family , and crossover productions with St . George ’ s School .
Academically , her interest in social justice and law continued through CHS ; she also explored other courses such as computer science and Spanish and dedicated herself to AP courses on the topics . She ultimately
