25º ANIVERSARIO DEL ISPI Nº 9123 "SAN BARTOLOMÉ"
Some days ago, I was asked by Betty Lardizábal and, later, by Verónica de la Encina to write an article about my experience at the Institute. Since then, I have been wondering how I will be able to put into words my feelings towards this Institution and I came up with the idea of sharing my story. I hope this is the best way to communicate why I love “San Bartolomé” so much.
To begin with, I have been a student here since I was four years old and I started kindergarten. I was once was a student of the teacher I actually observe in the subject “Taller de Docencia” and from whom my classmates and I learn day after day (as for example Miss Lily Rodriguez and Adriana). I used to play in the same patio little kids do now and had the privilege of being part of the “Equilinguism Method” when it was implemented at school for the very first years.
Moreover, when I was in primary school I had the pleasure of experiencing Graciela Castelli's methods as the Principal of the English Department. It was then, and thanks to her, that I fell in love with the English language when I was a little kid. I will never forget the day I was sent to her office, near the School main entrance on Tucumán Street, in order to read to her a story I had written when I was only eight years old. That day, Graciela congratulated me and stuck a sticker
on my paper, how great that was and
how much it has marked me!
Once in secondary school, English lessons became a little bit more professional. We were divided into groups according to our level and the Cambridge exam we were going to sit for. Verónica Tellechea and Mariana Richardson, now English coordinators of the school, were excellent teachers who also influenced my academic life. Graciela Shakespeare, a prominent figure in the English Department, culture and school life, was the English and Spanish Head at that moment. Of course, I also learnt a lot from her. At this time, I was very interested in improving my English so I took some extra conversation lessons at “Instituto Churchill”, there I met Miss Susan another notable teacher who had a positive effect in my English studies.
A few years after I graduated from school and having studied “Comunicación Social” in a State University, I came back to school but this time to “Instituto Superior Incorporado San Bartolomé N° 9123”.
Beatriz Lardizábal kindly received me that hot day in February 2006 when I came to learn a little bit more about the Translator course. As soon as she started telling me about it, the subjects, the institute and her experience as a translator I knew I would also like to become one.
