Imjin Coffee Morning and Family Outreach
Alessandra Bello
On April 26th at 10 am , the Imjin Coffee Morning and Family Outreach took place as usual . This coffee morning featured an amazing Gurkha culinary demonstration .
The morning took place with a warm welcome from the Nepalese contingent who first served coffee , tea , sausage rolls and burgers and then their delicious typical dishes including Momo , Sel-Roti and potatoes with tomato sauce . Truly mouthwatering dishes which were then demonstrated by a chef and some Gurkha ladies .
It was fun to see the skill and speed in creating Momo in different shapes . Even more amusing was being able to take part in the demonstration where you were patiently taught how to create this appetizing dish . It was an amazing experience that I firmly invite anyone reading this , to have because the idea would be to replicate it with culinary demonstrations from other nations . What better opportunity to discover other ways of living , traditions and enrich your cultural baggage .
Coffee mornings and international lunches
Selma Berkhout
We are nearly at the end of the schoolyear and many of you are leaving . Before you leave , I would like to thank you all for all the effort , time , creativity and kindness you put into the coffee mornings and luncheons .
Let me start with the coffee mornings ; it is an excellent way to meet other ladies and to talk English . The coffee mornings start at 10.00 and end around 12.00 . Every NATO country has the possibility to serve a traditional coffee morning . This gives you an opportunity to learn about the country ’ s treats and dishes I might add ! I often call the coffee mornings brunches because of the amount of food there is to try . LOVE IT ! Some of the countries even wear traditional clothing like the Germans , other hang wonderful pictures on the wall or decorate the Imjin Barracks Community Center where the coffee is served . Please come in if you have the chance .
The luncheons are often in different places , from the mess to a typical restaurant of origin . The French were the first ones to use the Community Center which was done very well .
The Greek had their lunch at the Gloucester docks . It was a lot of fun , and the food was excellent . They even smashed dishes to the ground , a typical Greek tradition and there was live music so we could dance the Sirtaki . There is so much to tell about the different luncheons , every one of them is special and again I can ’ t emphasize enough how much time and effort it takes to put them together , so once again THANK YOU !
Last note : don ’ t forget to buy lottery tickets !!! The money goes to charity . Although it is not about the prizes , there a good and beautiful things to win .
