Concrete Site
Structure and Materiality
Built for practical use as a busy fish market, the
building is made from industrial materials with
little aesthetic value. The walls are brick and sit
on a thick concrete base, the majority of the site
around the building is also concrete.
Exterior Elevation expressing existing materiality 1:100 (also shown in volume 3)
Line of Sight
The Bridge Tavern is just about visible from a
limited number of points across the harbour (side
of the fish market). Considering all possible
approaches to the fish market, on foot and in a
car, the most appropriate place to suggest a new
link will be informed by the line of sight.
Historic Bridge
Another inspiration for the installation of a new
link across the water is the historic bridge built in
1839, which lasted 86 years on this site.
Working Model
This simple card model shows the only existing
interior features were some stud wall offices and
ice tanks for storing fish. These would be
removed, so my 1:100 working model has been
prepared for development of ideas.
