“It was big for both teams to get to
regional’s,” said Hively.
The runners that stood out this
season for the boys team were Kyle
Baker and Jerry Schwartz. Baker
advanced to regionals for the fourth
straight season as well being named
All-Conference for the fourth straight
season. He also advanced to semi-state
for the third straight year. He will
be running Saturday, October 22nd.
Hively expects Baker to do very well
at semi-state. “If he runs his personal
best, he should make it to the state
meet,” said
Hively. “If
he has a
great race,
he can
run with
anybody.”
Baker has
been very
dedicated
throughout
his high
school career. In the

past four and a half months, Baker has
run a total of about 800 miles.
Schwartz advanced to regionals all
three years he was a part of the team.
He was also named All-Conference for
the third straight year.
For the girls team, Janell Bender,
Jennifer Robledo, and Kaitlyn Warren
stood out for the Warriors. All three
girls were named All-Conference.
Bender and Warren even advanced to
regional’s. It’s the first time in coach
Hively’s career that three girls have
made All-Conference in the same
season.
Hively is most proud of the boys
team this year because they placed
higher than he thought they would in
the state series. Even though injuries
hindered their mid-season run, the
boys recovered to run very well this
season. They beat West Noble in their
sectionals for the first time since the
1990’s. They also beat Angola at regionals for the first time all season.

Hively is most proud of the girls
team this year because of their third
place finish at the NECC meet. They
had the best 5K time average in the five
years that the event has been ran.
The teams were strong all year, but
at times it was an “emotional rollercoaster,” said Hively. This is when all
the teams miles together paid off. The
entire team ran a total of around 8,200
miles together this season.
The boys team exceeded coach
Hively’s expectations this season.
