Sports Scoop ... cont. from 25 “It was big for both teams to get to regional’s,” said Hively. The runners that stood out this season for the boys team were Kyle Baker and Jerry Schwartz. Baker advanced to regionals for the fourth straight season as well being named All-Conference for the fourth straight season. He also advanced to semi-state for the third straight year. He will be running Saturday, October 22nd. Hively expects Baker to do very well at semi-state. “If he runs his personal best, he should make it to the state meet,” said Hively. “If he has a great race, he can run with anybody.” Baker has been very dedicated throughout his high school career. In the Photos submitted past four and a half months, Baker has run a total of about 800 miles. Schwartz advanced to regionals all three years he was a part of the team. He was also named All-Conference for the third straight year. For the girls team, Janell Bender, Jennifer Robledo, and Kaitlyn Warren stood out for the Warriors. All three girls were named All-Conference. Bender and Warren even advanced to regional’s. It’s the first time in coach Hively’s career that three girls have made All-Conference in the same season. Hively is most proud of the boys team this year because they placed higher than he thought they would in the state series. Even though injuries hindered their mid-season run, the boys recovered to run very well this season. They beat West Noble in their sectionals for the first time since the 1990’s. They also beat Angola at regionals for the first time all season. pg 26 · The Hometown Treasure · Nov. ‘11 Hively is most proud of the girls team this year because of their third place finish at the NECC meet. They had the best 5K time average in the five years that the event has been ran. The teams were strong all year, but at times it was an “emotional rollercoaster,” said Hively. This is when all the teams miles together paid off. The entire team ran a total of around 8,200 miles together this season.
