On December 20, 1985, the Shipshewana Retail Merchants Association, Inc. was incorporated as a Not-For-Profit corporation. Up until that time it was the Businessmen’s Association that had taken the lead in promoting Shipshewana’s special events. But the newly formed retail merchants proved to be more aggressive and visionary, designing promotional materials for Toll Road plazas and other tourism publications.
