Two major events helped propel
Mayfest and Shipshewana tourism to new levels: “Hoosier 88” and
the “1989 Shipshewana Centennial
Jubilee.” It was the State of Indiana
that launched the tourism promotion called “Hoosier 88 Celebration”.
This program encouraged communities to plan local events that would
attract former residents back home
for a visit as well as promote local
tourist attractions. Working with
