youth development program

A note from BEN SUCHOMSKI, MANAGER of YDP

2017 is going to be a very exciting season for the Youth Development Program. With over 60 events on the schedule, the Youth Development Program offers more playing opportunities for members 8-13 years old than ever before.
I am incredibly excited to begin this season with the Youth Development Program. I have big shoes to fill with this program, but I can’ t wait to see where we are able to take it in the coming years. One of the biggest themes in the Youth Development Program is introducing tournament golf to newcomers, and in 2017 the YDP has added a few events as well as educational tools to help make that introduction more fun. of Des Plaines, and the IJGA Mentor Scramble at Valley Lo that provides opportunities for IJGA members to have a little extra fun at an event in which having the lowest score isn’ t necessarily the first priority.
In addition to these fun events, the IJGA will be making a more concerted effort to educate members on the Rules of Golf as well as etiquette this season. There will be email reminders throughout the season covering relevant topics that the IJGA staff observes at the events. In addition to these emails, there will be new rules to learn each week, featured on our website, as well as additional Rules covered at the first tee or scoring areas before and after the rounds with the IJGA staff.
The schedule will feature two( 2) team events( a 9-hole and an 18-hole) that will allow players to team up with one of their fellow IJGA members and compete in scramble and alternate shot formats. These team events will combine with IJGA Night Golf at Golf Center
When you add all of these new events, education tools, procedures and the creation of the first YDP Sizzler Championship at Cog Hill G & CC in early August, you can see why 2017 shapes up to be the most complete and promising year ever for the Youth Development Program!
