HOT WEATHER GOLF TIPS FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF INSTRUCTION :

RICHARD RICE

Summer is here as are the high temps , but that ’ s perfect for golf weather ! Did you know that temperature can affect the flight of the golf ball ? Yes , you may have noticed that you ’ ve been hitting the ball a little longer lately . Some of that is a little help from the dry fairways , but the ball also carries farther in warmer temps . Make sure to adjust your strategy off the tee and into the greens for the best results !
Speaking of high temps , it is important that you adjust your in-round nutrition accordingly . Many days , water alone is not enough to hydrate us . I personally use Liquid IV to keep my electrolyte counts up . Make sure you supplement your hydration with some healthy carbs on the golf course as well … bananas , fruit cups , and granola are all great ways to help keep your energy levels up on the back 9 .
TIP OF THE SEASON : SWING THOUGHTS
Did you know that the average human brain can only handle between 3-5 conscious thoughts at one time ? We can , of course , have thousands of subconscious actions happening at once , but for conscious effort we really don ’ t have a lot of space in our brain . I always suggest the following to my students : limit yourself to 3 thoughts . 1 ) A feel or thought to get your backswing moving in the right direction . 2 ) A feel or thought to produce your desired downswing shape . 3 ) Some sort of engagement with the target .
Remember - it ’ s not enough to just aim at your target . You should have a direct intention to physically send your ball in that direction .
