Sooy Jr . elementary School fifth Grade Chorus , Hammonton Community Choir , Hammonton High School Select Choir and a demonstrative performance of Clement Clarke Moore ’ s classic Christmas poem , “ a Visit from St . Nicholas himself made his way down Bellevue avenue atop of firetruck wrapped in Christmas lights and sprinkled a fist full of magic dust into the air to help light the tree . after the tree was lit , Santa Claus greeted local children at Wells fargo Bank .
“ We had wonderful attendance for the downtown tree lighting and everything went very well . it all went safely and smoothly , and we ’ re looking forward to seeing firefighters ’ Christmas Parade on Saturday . Hammonton is a unique community where people come out to town events and want to be involved ,” Hammonton Police Lt . Kevin friel said .
MainStreet Hammonton executive Director Cassie iacovelli said the downtown tree lighting has continued to grow each year and continues to be one of Main- Street ’ s flagship events .
“ this is our biggest event other than the food truck festival … and , obviously , the opportunity to have the light show and the large screen gives this an added dimension that none of our other events have ,” iacovelli said . iacovelli said a large group of generous sponsors and a dedicated team of MainStreet volunteers are the recipe to the event ’ s annual success . MainStreet Hammonton volunteer Dawn Baldwin is the event coordinator for the downtown tree lighting and said a lot of hard work and preparation goes into organizing the event each year .

Families in business

FAMILY , from Page 1 brought his son , Christopher , aboard to help out at the shop . Joseph Berenato said having his son as an employee gives him peace of mind because he knows he shares the same level of care for the family business as he does .
“ i feel that he feels like it ’ s going to be his business , and he cares about it just as much as i care about it . it ’ s a pretty good experience and i feel like i have peace of mind that i can leave and have him — i mean , i have great employees , but he picks it up ,” Joseph Berenato said .
Scott figueroa , owner of Pro- One Graphics and Signs , has four sons who have aided him in his business in some form . figueroa said being in business with family is something he became accustomed to after working alongside his father in his business ventures for several years until his retirement . However , figueroa said he prefers his sons go to college and get degrees so they can pursue their own careers rather than join the company at Pro-One .
“ i don ’ t want him to be in the business . i want him to get a college degree , so he doesn ’ t have to work so hard … i just wanted to give him the opportunity to go to college . i don ’ t know if he ’ ll like it . if he doesn ’ t like it , he can come here . if he likes it here , he ’ ll make a good living here ,” figueroa said about his son , Scott Jr ., who currently attends Stockton University .
Kelly Brown and her daughter , Kelbie , have spent most of their time by each other ’ s side at gourmet olive oil and balsamic vinegar shop tales of the Olive since it opened in the fall of 2016 . Kelbie said her mother never needed to ask her to help out when she decided to open her own business .
“ My mom has always been there for me , for my dreams , anything i wanted to do . So , when she said , ‘ this is something i ’ m really interested in ,’ i knew even before she said , ‘ Would you like to help me ?’ that i wanted to help her pursue it ,” Kelbie Brown said .
Kelly Brown said the motherdaughter dynamic lends itself nicely to the business and has led to an overall positive experience .
