“ it ’ s a requirement by the state . the other thing they ’ ll develop is a program that they ’ ll be able to monitor when they ’ re flushing the hydrants , when they ’ re turning or exercising the valves , when they ’ re doing a lot of different things associated with all the improvements that are on various streets ,” Vettese said .
Councilman Steven furgione said the Water and Sewer Committee has already begun placing barcodes on the town ’ s fire hydrants that can be used to track their geographic location and instantly receive key information about each water connection once the pilot program study commences .
“ We also started barcoding the hydrants . So , once we have the proper technology in place to be able to scan a hydrant , you ’ ll know what size line — everything associated with it ,” furgione said . a motion to approve arH ’ s proposal to complete the pilot study program in two sections of town for a total cost not to exceed $ 4,300 was made by furgione , seconded by Giralo and passed unanimously . in accordance with the new WQaa state requirements , furgione recommended council to go out to bid for a single-turner valve maintenance trailer to properly exercise its water valves . furgione said the act is requiring the town to acquire the hydraulic-operated trailer because it currently exercises its valves manually , which is against the current requirements . the bid will be received by November 7 , according to furgione .
“ this machine will allow us to exercise our water valves throughout town . Currently , we ’ re doing it by hand . the valves that are old : you turn it a little too tight , you break the valve . there goes a couple thousand dollars down the drain ,” furgione said . a motion to go out to bid for the purchase of a single-turner valve maintenance trailer was made by furgione , seconded by rodio and passed unanimously . furgione also made a motion to authorize Mayor Stephen DiDonato to sign the yearly WQaa compliance page in order to comply with the requirements listed in the act . the motion was seconded by Councilman thomas Gribbin and passed unanimously . in other council news , Vettese reported several action items related to ongoing public works- , and water and sewer-related matters during the engineer ’ s report . first , Vettese asked for council to adopt a resolution ( No . 138-2018 ) that would authorize the filing of a SaGe ( System for administering Grants electronically ) grant application in order to fund the town ’ s bike path extension project . a motion to adopt the resolution and authorize the SaGe grant application for the project was made by Michael torrissi , seconded by Gribbin and passed unanimously .
Vettese also asked for council to adopt a resolution ( No . 137-2018 ) to authorize the filing of a SaGe grant application in order to fund the next phase of the ongoing roadway reconstruction project on 14th Street . Vettese said the next phase of the project would allow for the construction of a Phase ii termination point to egg Harbor road . a motion to adopt the resolution and authorize the SaGe grant application for the 14th Street project was made by torrissi , seconded by Gribbin and passed unanimously .
Lastly , Vettese asked for council to adopt a resolution ( No . 126- 2018 ) of support for a redevelopment study at the Celona remediation site ( formerly known as Sam ’ s Super Service Station ), located at 130 railroad ave . Vettese said arH had submitted a grant application to the New Jersey Department of environmental Protection ( NJDeP ) on february 13 , 2018 in the amount of $ 66,200 . the grant , according to Vettese , would fund the remedial investigation of the site in an attempt to further assess the environmental concerns associated with it . a motion to adopt a resolution to support the redevelopment study was made by torrissi , seconded by Gribbin and passed unanimously .
