Information from the September 24 town council meeting

VETTESE , from Page 3 fore the forthcoming NJDOt roadway improvement project that will resurface a portion of 12th Street ( route 54 ) between the White Horse Pike and the town boundary line . arH will be sending letters to the NJDOt to inform them of any potential projects , and to the New Jersey environmental infrastructure trust ( NJeit ) for possible funding consideration and a meeting request .
• arH has completed the Phase ii / Site assessment report at the abandoned K & K Linens property , located on Vine Street next to town hall . the findings and recommendations from the report have been provided to council for review , questions and discussion .
• the NJDOt has awarded the town $ 391,000 in municipal aid funding for phase ii of the 14th Street roadway improvement project . arH has been authorized by council to proceed with the surveying , design and bidding for the project . arH anticipates submitting the project proposal to the NJDOt for review within the next two weeks after it completes all remaining work related to base mapping , construction plans and specifications .
During Jerome Barberio ’ s Public Works Manager / Business administrator report , he announced that bulky waste removal will take place from Monday , October 1 to friday , October 5 . Brush removal will take place the following week , from Monday , October 8 to friday , October 12 .
Barberio also announced that the municipal utilities department recently received a bid for concrete repair work that is needed at one of its water clarifiers but the bid did not fit the department ’ s budget expectation , so he is seeking council ’ s approval to reject and reissue the bid . a motion to approve this action was made by furgione , seconded by Councilman Sam rodio and passed unanimously . in other news , during the Solicitor ’ s report , town solicitor Michael Malinsky introduced Ordinance No . 041-2018 , which seeks to authorize the sale of a piece of town-owned land located at 149 Golden eagle Drive ( Block 1602 , Lot 3 on the town tax map ). Malinsky said the sale was previously introduced in a similar ordinance ( No . 025-2018 ), but the land did not receive any bidders when a public sale occurred . a motion to approve Ordinance No . 041-2018 and authorize the sale of the property was made by Councilman Joseph Giralo , seconded by Councilwoman Brooke Sacco and passed unanimously . in other news , the following information was reported during council ’ s respective committee reports :
Administration Committee ( Torrissi ): Deferred action items to zuber and Barberio ’ s reports .
Business and Industry Committee ( Gribbin ): MainStreet Hammonton will host next month ’ s third thursday festivities on thursday , October 18 from 6 p . m . to 9 p . m . with a “ a Spooktacular Bash ” Halloween theme .
MainStreet Hammonton will host its annual Downtown trick or treat event on Saturday , October 20 from 2 p . m . to 4 p . m . ( rain date : Saturday , October 27 ).
During the latter portion of the meeting , council agreed on a timeframe for this year ’ s regular trick or treat schedule , which will begin on Halloween , Wednesday , October 31 from 5:30 p . m . to 8 p . m . a motion to finalize this year ’ s trick or treat schedule was made by furgione , seconded by Sacco and passed unanimously . Education Committee ( Gribbin ): During the Hammonton Board of education ’ s most recent meeting on September 13 , assistant Superintendent tammy Leonard gave a presentation about the district ’ s Partnership for assessment of readiness for College and Career ( ParCC ) test scores for spring 2018 and the past four years as a whole . Gribbin said the presentation indicated that Hammonton ’ s students produced slightly higher literacy scores in 2018 , and math performance levels in numerous grade levels were higher than the state averages .
Quality of Life Committee ( Sacco ): the town was recently awarded a reforestation grant from the NJDeP in the amount of $ 17,220 . the grant will be used to reforest the land around the soccer fields within the Boyer avenue recreation Complex with shade trees , and to establish a small , potin-pot tree nursery that will supply trees throughout town as needed .
Sacco also reported that the Hammonton environmental Commission is continuing towards developing a butterfly garden at Hammonton Lake Park . the Hammonton Lake Water Quality advisory Committee recently published its 2018 lake water testing results on the committee ’ s facebook page . More information regarding the lake will be published in the near future . the 35th annual Kiwanis Halloween Parade will take place on Wednesday , October 24 at 7 p . m .
Public Works and Transportation Committee ( Rodio ): Deferred one action item to Vettese ’ s report .
Water and Sewer Committee ( Furgione ): the committee recently connected all but one of its sewer pump stations to the wastewater treatment plant on Pleasant Mills road . furgione said the employees of the plant can now track the status of each pump in realtime and can be alerted when pumps are on the verge of flooding . furgione said the committee also installed controllers for the town ’ s drip irrigation and sub-surface drip irrigation systems that allow the Water and Sewer Department to remotely track the status and control the flow of the town ’ s drip irrigation via an iPhone . in other business , council unanimously approved the following actions during frank zuber ’ s town Clerk ’ s report ( a motion to approve all items was made by torrissi and seconded by Sacco ):
• approve the promotion of Mary Massara to Keyboard Clerk

• approve letter of support to Galloway twp . in their effort to receive a Sustainable Jersey grant titled “ friends along the Mullica .”
• accept resignation of Miriam feldman from the Municipal Court Office , effective September 19 , 2018 .
• approve of accrued benefits payment for trixie Silvesti , not to exceed $ 14,255.79 . to be paid out in January 2019 at $ 11,367.88 for accrued sick time , $ 1,706.37 for accrued vacation time , $ 644.48 for accrued personal time and $ 537.06 for accrued comp time ( total of $ 14,255.79 ).
• approval to hire roseann Kronk as Keyboard Clerk 1 ( parttime ) for the Municipal Court Office , effective September 24 , 2018 for 19 hours a week , not to exceed $ 13.50 per hour . No benefits .
• approval to hire Dina Wentzell as Keyboard Clerk 1 ( part-time ) for the Municipal Court Office , effective September 24 , 2018 for 26 hours a week , not to exceed $ 13.50 per hour . No benefits .
• approval to hire Catherine andreini as Keyboard Clerk 1 ( parttime ) for the tax Collector ’ s
Office , effective October 1 , 2018 for 26 hours a week , not to exceed $ 13.50 per hour . No benefits .
• approve francis Woelfel iii as a new member of Hammonton independent Volunteer fire Company No . 2 ( approved at the fire company meeting on September 12 ).
