Czerwinski, along with the re- cently-hired bilingual municipal court clerk Mariela Mondragon, were previously employed by the egg Harbor City Municipal Court. their hiring is the latest in a se- ries of changes to Hammonton’s court, since it became a joint mu- nicipal court with folsom in 2018. in his report, town solicitor Michael Malinsky summarized an ordinance addendum updating the language of the joint municipal court agreement. “the one provision in the first addendum that affects the town of Hammonton is that folsom will now be paying the town of Ham- monton an additional $18,000 per year, which will be paid in four equal quarterly installments of $4,500. this is in addition to, cur- rently we get all the fines and rev- enue for any tickets issued in folsom. in addition to that now, folsom will commit to paying Hammonton the first payment of $4,500 by January 1, 2020,” Ma- linsky said. additionally, according to the language in a legal advertisement published in The Gazette, “in ac- cordance with the establishment of a Joint Municipal Court and this first addendum, folsom shall compensate its prior Municipal Court Clerk in the amount of $19,295.00.” Mayor stephen didonato ex- plained the necessity for such an agreement, and what it may mean for Hammonton in the future. “the state is in the process of, it looks like they’re going to approve, if any municipal court has less than 3,000 line items, they will have them close their court. so these smaller courts like, for instance, folsom, Mullica, egg Harbor City, need to fall under a more regional court system. it appears that there’s going to be three or four regional courts in our county, and Ham- monton looks like it’s going to be one of them.
