HAMMONTON—In an inter-
view with The Gazette on Septem-
ber 23, Hammonton Police Chief
Kevin Friel said that the police ap-
preciated the community’s sup-
port during the events of the
town’s Green Weekend, some of
which brought excess traffic to
town. One event, the Bike MS:
City to Shore Ride 2019, which
brought hundreds of bicyclists
through town, was not a town
event, Friel said, but also occurred
on September 21 and 22, during
Green Weekend.
“The Hammonton Police De-
partment wants to thank the com-
munity for their respectful and
responsible driving during the
heavy traffic of the Bike MS: City
to Shore Ride 2019. We realize
that it is a trying time with the im-
pact of all of the events, but by
everyone being cautious, we had
no accidents and there was a lot of
support for the cause. In response
to concerns residents had about
some cyclists not following rules
of the roadway this year, we will
be addressing those concerns be-
fore next year’s event,” Friel said.
Friel also thanked everyone in-
volved with the new traffic pattern
at the Warren E. Sooy Jr. Elemen-
tary School, and for their compli-
ance with it.
“Now that it’s the third week of
school, we also thank the parents
for working with school, town and
police to make the drop-off safer.
When the community and the po-
lice work together, good things
happen,” Friel said.

Would-be shoppers were out
bright and early for the Town-

8 a.m., and sellers were ready for
them, with a very specific goal in
mind.
“We’re hoping to get rid of
everything,” Toni Caruso said.
Along with her mother Concetta

Shirley DeNick, Caruso was set

“A lot of the toys are gone. A lot
of the clothes are going. You can’t
