HAMMONTON—On Wednes-
day, September 20 at 6:30 p.m., an
event for people living with the
autoimmune disease Multiple
Sclerosis (MS) and their support
team is being held at Kathedral
Event Center.
Hammontonian Franco Catania
is a senior area business manager
with Sanofi Genzyme in the MS
business unit. The company man-
ufactures Aubagio, an MS medica-
tion, and is hosting the September
20 event.
“We are incorporating nutrition
and diet and how it affects MS,”
Catania said about the event.
The event is free and includes
dinner, guest speakers, question
and answers, informational items
and more. Dr. Amos Katz will be
one of the guest speakers.
According to Catania, there are
about 77 people in Hammonton
with MS.
According to healthline.com,
there are 110 to 140 MS cases per
100,000 people living in the
United States above the 37th par-
allel.
Catania said the September 20
event is important because it fo-
cuses on more than just medicine
and the illness itself.
“With 77 people in our town
have MS, I want to do what I can
to help those people and give them
a better quality of life. This is the
importance of the program. I en-
courage patients to go to multiple
programs,. You will always learn
something new. It is important for
a spouse, family and friends to go.
They need to know the symptoms
and the signs,” Catania said.
He said he hopes the turnout is
good because he would like to do
a series in Hammonton at Kathe-
dral. The next topic would be
“stress and mindfulness.”
“I am hoping to do one per quar-
ter in town at Kathedral,” he said.
He encourages friends and rela-
tives to register.
“I think when friends and family
attends these events, they get a
glimpse of what MS patients go
through. It takes a group of people
to help an MS patient along,”
Catania said.
The lifelong Hammontonian is
passionate about caring for people
with MS. Hammonton is not in
his region for work, but he said he
knows many of the people living
with MS locally and he wants to
help them.
“I am doing it because I have so
many friends who have MS. I
think there is a need. I want to do
what is right for my town,” Cata-
nia, who is also a council candi-
date on this year’s Republican
slate, said.
At the event, attendees will be
able to ask the doctor and other
professionals questions about MS,
treatment options, nutrition ques-
tions and more.
Catania said he is passionate
about helping people.

Sons, daughters,
moms, dads. I think I am in a po-
sition where I can help people. I
love helping people,” he said.
Lee Domenico, who was diag-
nosed in 2010, said she is attend-
ing the event on September 20.
“Nutrition is key to anyone. It
is a no-brainer. We are what we
eat. When we eat we feel better.
That is half the battle in any case
and especially in MS,” Domenico
said.
Domenico said she tried an anti-
inflammatory diet, and she saw a
marked improvement in how she
felt.
The Hammonton resident said
she had served as an Aubagio
spokesperson and spoke at meet-
ings like the September 20 event.
Domenico heads the non-profit
group Lee’s MSketeers that raised
money to help people in the area
with Multiple Sclerosis.
