HAMMONTON—The Hammonton Parks and Recreation
Commission met on February 16
at town hall for their monthly
meeting. After approving the minutes from January’s meeting, the
public was heard on one item.
Kim Terpolilli and Mike Griske,
manager and head coach of the
East Coast Crush fastpitch softball
team respectively, came before the
commission to request the use of
a field for their spring season.
They also asked that the field be
refurbished, as it is currently overgrown throughout the infield. East
Coast Crush is a 14U travel softball team made up of girls from
Hammonton and Folsom. They
will be using the field primarily
for tournaments on the weekends
and practices during the week.
They plan to participate in the
South Jersey Girls Softball Association (SJGSA). Hammonton
Public Works Manager/Business
Administrator Jerome Barberio
told Terpolilli that he will consult
with the Hammonton Little
League and determine whether or
not that field is needed for their
season but that he didn’t see it
being an issue going forward.
Each commission member was
given a different park to look after
for 2016. Their duties include
light maintenance and upkeep. If
larger problems arise that require
attention from Barberio or town
council, they are to bring the report to the following month’s
meeting.
Barberio presented use of facility requests that included a number of family reunions. He stated
that as long as the sesquicentennial committee does not need the
locations in question for any of
the requested dates, all of the
forms will be approved.
Hammonton Youth Soccer Association Vice President Ian
Fisher gave a brief update on the
DiMeglio Septic,

status of the soccer fields and
when the town can expect to see
teams begin practicing for their
spring season.
“It’s all weather depending, but
they’re itching to get out there.
Some teams will start in the last
week or so of February while others like to wait until the weather
breaks,” Fisher said.
He stated that the fields are in
great condition and everyone is
very pleased with the work that
was done after the installation of
the drip irrigation system and the
re-sodding of the turf.
Otto Hernandez presented a
flyer advertising the Hammonton
Lake Park cleanup that is scheduled to take place on March 19 at
10 a.m. Any group or individual
interested in volunteering their
time is encouraged to attend. The
cleanup will begin with light refreshments at the Canoe Club. For
more information on the cleanup,
contact Robert Reitmeyer at 7048166.
Prior to adjourning, the commission made a motion that will
be brought to council regarding
the use of Clean-Flo in 2016. It
has been stated at their prior meetings that without the proper enzymes, the Clean-Flo system
cannot function properly and
spending the necessary money to
continue using it may not be in the
town’s best interest. Parks and
recreation members are making a
recommendation to council to
stop the use of Clean-Flo in 2016
unless discoveries are made in the
near future.
