In the final version of the book proper, we shall include as many of these as we have been able to identify plus, of course, full coverage of all the current Tasmanian expressions. Some examples of both are given below. Tasmanian Whiskies Past and Present Whilst, of course, there are no surviving examples of Tasmanian whiskies dating from the pre-prohibition era, there are many bottles of Tasmanian whisky from 1995 onwards which are no longer commercially available but which can be found in the secondary market and are much sought after by collectors, investors and imbibers alike. Belgrove Rye Whiskey 42% ABV 500 ml. Currently available. Surprisingly soft and flavoursome. A golden hue promises a rich variety of influences on the nose and on the tongue. Dried fruit and spices contribute to a lasting after-taste. Where online purchases are available, the reader of the electronic version of this book can simply click on the relevant link. For the hardcopy version, the appropriate website is given. Heartwood Vat Out of Hell Tasmanian Vatted Malt Whisky. 67.4% ABV 700 ml. No longer available except on secondary market. Combination of a 10 year old Lark Sherry Barrel & 13 year old Tasmania Distillery Bourbon Barrel. A semi-sweet, creamy cask-strength gem. Find, buy, treasure! Hellyers Road 10 Years Old Original Single Malt Whisky 46.2% ABV 700 ml. Currently available. Matured in American white oak barrels. The nose suggests fresh fruit with vanilla and spice undertones, whilst the palate gives full meaning to the malty richness of the local Tasmanian barley. Lark Distiller’s Selection Single Malt Whisky 46% 700 ml. Currently available. Recently took the title of "Best World Whisky" for 2014 at the International Whisky Competition in Chicago. A notch up on the standard 43% offering and is also from a single cask. Whisky Links General www.australianwhisky.com www.taswhiskytrail.com www.tasmanianwhiskytours.com.au www.twas.com.au 13
