When people participate in Spirit Week, they’re not only getting to know other people, but themselves as well.”

Spirit Week is a Northwest tradition that everyone holds near and dear to their heart. It’s one of the few events throughout the year that gives Northwest a “normal high school” feel. Spirit Week attracts students because it includes typical high school activities in an atypical type of school.

“Spirit Week keeps the student body together and involved! It gives our school in particular a chance to incorporate “real” high school experiences.” Senior Brianna Ornelas said regarding the Northwest tradition.

Spirit Week is a unique combination of school pride and sentimental reminiscing. Without Spirit Week, students wouldn’t be as enthusiastic as they are to be part of Northwest. Spirit Week is a time of laughs, memories, and competition. It’s one of the major events alumni remember from high school’s glory days. It gives class sponsors and students the opportunity to liven up the portables with themed decorations of all sorts. It gives students the chance to express themselves and show their personal interests. They can dress different and act spontaneous without social judgment from others for one special week. These reasons are why Northwest takes honor in its Spirit Week and enjoy showing off their Griffin Pride!
