Decade day was next, and it was truly interesting. We had students and teachers dress in clothes from the 50’s all the way up to 2010; from sleek black leather to leg warmers and headbands.

The final festive day was Spirit Day. Spirit Day is the most exciting day from the entire Spirit Week. It’s the day where students get to release all their school pride and go crazy. School color attire, face paint, and class representation is all displayed on Spirit Day to see who the proudest Griffins are. Despite every class’s efforts, the class of 2018 won this year and got to take the Spirit Stick as reward! It was a great win for the Sophomores, but a bittersweet moment for the Seniors, class of 2016. Though the Spirit Stick belonged to the Sophomores, they lent it to the Seniors to hold for one last time. The Seniors formed a circle and chanted, trying to make the most of their final Spirit Week.

It’s moments like those that show us just how important Spirit Week truly is. The main goal of Spirit Week is for everybody to have fun and get pumped up for the new school year. Spirit Week reveals a strong sense of unity among Northwest students and staff. It adds a splash of color to school and makes everyone look more energetic than usual. When asked why Spirit Week is so important, class of 2018’s President Vastian Amador said, “Spirit Week lets students know that Northwest isn’t just work. It’s fun, competitive, and includes cooperation. Each class has to work together, but no matter who wins, we’re all one Griffin family.

events throughout the year that gives Northwest a “normal high school” feel. Spirit Week attracts students because it includes typical high school activities in an atypical type of school. “Spirit Week keeps the student body together and involved! It gives our school in particular a chance to incorporate “real” high school experiences.” Senior Brianna Ornelas said regarding the Northwest tradition.

Spirit Week is a unique combination of school pride and sentimental reminiscing. Without Spirit Week, students wouldn’t be as enthusiastic as they are to be part of Northwest. Spirit Week is a time of laughs, memories, and competition. It’s one of the major events alumni remember from high school’s glory days. It gives class sponsors and students the opportunity to liven up the portables with themed decorations of all sorts. It gives students the chance to express themselves and show their personal interests. They can dress different and act spontaneous without social judgment from others for one special week. These reasons are why Northwest takes honor in its Spirit Week and enjoy showing off their Griffin Pride!
