"My why? I believe my why is Life! Life is hard, and often we are taught the behaviors we engage in with our experiences".
1. Tell us about your background – your story of self-discovery and your amazing achievements
I played a high level of hockey in Winnipeg most of my youth and into adulthood. I suffered six career-ending concussions. I turned to drugs and alcohol very quickly as I now realize hockey was my addiction before substance abuse. I became involved with some of the worlds less savory people hence why I look like a biker as you will see in my photos. In 2006 my marriage ended after ten years, and I dove deeper into my drug addiction. I was a cocaine and heroin addict. On September 4, 2008, I overdosed and was clinically dead due to the collapse of my lungs, and my heart stopped. Gratefully I was given a second chance, and I sought the help I needed to overcome my addiction. I have been clean for 11 years this September. Since that time I went to university and became an Addictions Counsellor and interventionist, and I have spent the last ten years doing what I can to help people like myself. I have my practice and work with people all over Canada. I also speak nationally in schools where I tell my story to help the youth of Canada hopefully find better ways to live than I chose. I also open groups homes for Level V children who need a safe place to live. The most important part of my accomplishments is that my three sons have their father and someone they can be proud of.
