There is much more to this story. However, I think that gives you a good idea of the struggle I have been challenged with.
2. What is your WHY? And why?
My why? I believe my why is Life! Life is hard, and often we are taught the behaviors we engage in with our experiences. Why do I choose life and helping others to choose life? That is easy. Life is so worth it when you live it as opposed to surviving it. I was given a second chance or maybe more than two. I owe others the same opportunity that was given to me. It’s not about money or fame. It’s about humanity and overcoming the most difficult challenges this life can put in our path.
3. Flashback to when you were ten years old. What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I was ten years old, I wanted to be an NHL hockey player. I would change a thing even if I could.
4. Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know of?
I have many skills that people don't know about because my past choices have limited my ability to interact with certain groups of people. Many people still look at me as a “junkie,” but if they only knew the real me and the passion I possess for life and other people, they may feel differently.
5. Who is someone you admire, and why?
I admire my parents. What they had to go through when I was sick had to be unimaginable, but they never gave up on me. They stood by me, they supported me, and most of all, they loved me when I couldn’t even love myself. Professionally, I admire Gabor Maté. What he did in Vancouver with the Portland Hotel Society. Helping all those who had little to nothing, living on the street having accepted their fate. He was there for them. He protected them. He loved them when no one else did. That is a hero to me.
6. What’s a typical day like for you?
My typical day is enjoying the morning with my sons when they are with me (50%). Then working with clients or preparing sessions or interventions. Liaising with treatment centers for possible treatment options. Of course, taking phone calls and returning messages. In the evening I love spending time with my family and friends enjoying what this life has to offer. I also offer a 24-hour emergency line if clients or other are in crisis
