XCOM: Enemy Unknown First Impressions XCOM: Enemy Unknown First Impressions U pon initially being asked to do a write up for the XCOM mag, I declined; mainly because I’ve never played any of the games, but also because the game has never really appealed to me. But after that, I was surrounded by the internet pissing themselves like an excited dog by the new XCOM: Enemy Within. With constantly being told about how good it is, I decided to go ahead and find out for myself. I was only supposed to play it for an hour, but in the end I didn’t, because of how boring... and of course, I’m joking. I ended up playing it for longer. It would have been a lot longer if I hadn’t had to stop. The level of detail that went into the game is phenomenal. The amount of immersion surrounding the base, it feels like you are really there. YOU are The Commander. YOU are deciding where to go. YOU decide which soldier has which equipment. YOU decide if (like me) you want your soldiers to have the most ridiculous facial hair and hair colour in the history of all facial hairs and hair colours. I’ve found out that fluorescent green looks hilarious with a mustache. On the subject of the soldiers, they truly feel like living, breathing people.
