Transformers Animated: The
Game (2008) Nintendo DS
Harkening back to the original Transformers
videogame, this DS exclusive is a puzzle platformer
based on the Hasbro animated series of the time.
It featured the entire voice cast from that series
who provided a background story similar to that
found in the second series of the programme.
Fun fact: when the player closed and opened
their DS during play, the console would emit
the classic transforming sound effect.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) PC,
PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, Xbox 360, DS
The first ever Transformers title to feature online
multiplayer, which was largely regarded as the best
element of the game. As with the previous movie
tie-in, the two DS versions offered completely
separate campaigns. One which followed the plot
of the movie and one which sees the Decepticons
succeed in their attempt to harvest the Earth’s sun.
Transformers: War for Cybertron
(2010) PC, PS3, Xbox 36
The first in a new series not directly tied to the film
franchise and one of the best received Transformers
games yet. Unlike most titles, this game featured
a single linear story mode that led to one ending,
despite being able to play as both factions. For
the first time, the online multiplayer allowed
players to design their own Transformers.
Transformers: Cybertron Adventures (2010) Wii
An on-rails shooter very different to the third-person
action game on the other consoles. The console’s
inability to run the Unreal Engine 3 meant that War
for Cybertron developers High Moon were not in
charge of this Wii counterpart. It received pretty
28
awful reviews, so is probably best forgotten.
