After a long absence from the western videogame

Beast Wars: Transformers (1997)
market, Transformers returned with a spin-off from
the Beast Wars TV series. The game was a rather
familiar third-person shooter that allowed players to
transform between robot and beast modes. Interestingly,
the player could also choose whether to fight for the
Autobots or Decepticons. The PC version even had a LAN
mode, and despite being buggy as hell it was received
much better than the rest of its Beast Wars family.
Transformers: Beast Wars Transmetals
(2000) PlayStation, Nintendo 64
A one-on-one fighting game that was released on
both PlayStation and Nintendo 64. The two versions
featured different characters as well as slightly different
endings to their TV-inspired plots. The game also
incorporated voices from actual TV-show actors.
Transformers (2004) PlayStation 2
Based on the Armada animated series and published
by Atari, no less, this PS2 exclusive stands as the
final Transformers game before the hollywood
movies began to control the direction of the
videogame franchise. The game features several
large open levels which can be explored at will.
Transformers: The Game (2007) PlayStation 2,
Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, PC, Wii, DS
With the success of the movie backing it up, this title
sold very well despite not receiving especially good
review from critics. As you’d expect from a movietie in, the game released across just about every
console and handheld device of the time, including
two separate versions for the DS: Autobots and
Decepticons. It was also the first time since the
Generation One cartoon that Optimus Prime and
Megatron were voiced by their original actors rather
than their movie counterparts’ voice actors.
