Independent Stores; These brands are niches’. They are not a part of a large firm and usually do not have more than one store.The team of workers in this store is usually very small. The business owner can sometimes also be the manager and take on many other roles like buying. An example of this may be a boutique on your local high street.

Multiple stores: Also known as a chain store. These stores have atleast 10 or more branches. They are mainly owned by large retailing groups like Arcadia. They have a large range of consumers and goods. Many of these chain stores also have online stores. They can also offer some extra services such as personal shopping. Topshop is a great example of this as they have branches all over the world including Europe, America and Asia.

Supermarkets: These are much larger grocery retailers. Some do sell non-food products.Tesco has a clothing department knlown as F&F. They now have self-checkouts as well as counter. They usually open early as well as close quiet late in the day so it is convinent for all of their customers. Tesco’s are known to have large superstore based in retail parks.

Not for profit: These are charity stores that do not make any profit from their sale. A lot of the staff are volunteers. They are much smaller and the staff split all the roles amongst themselves. There are usually a couple on your local high street such as Cancer research UK.

Public Place Retailer: These stores are much smaller kiosks located in public spaces such as museums, parks and also train stations etc. They usually stock small snacks for the people in the space. They will only have a limited amount of products available and a small amount of staff.
