THREE COUNTIES FARMING CONFERENCE ASKS IS GM THE ANSWER ?

Thursday 17 November 2016
»»
THE THREE COUNTIES FARMING Conference in association with Bruton Knowles returns with a heavy hitting panel to discuss the real issues that face farmers today .
To take place at the Three Counties Showground on Thursday 17 November , the event will introduce a selection of new afternoon workshops ( from the earlier than normal start time of 2pm ) from a collection of top names in the industry – NFU , DEFRA and Severn Trent Water . The Afternoon Workshops look at subjects as diverse as soil nutrition to grants available to farmers , and the NFU ’ s position on Brexit .
Ken Nottage , CEO of the Three Counties Agricultural Society , said : “ We are extremely proud of the Three Counties Farming Conference . We feel honoured that we are able to provide this vital platform for debate and portal for information for the farming and rural communities of which we are a part of . Following on from the success of last year we are introducing extra afternoon sessions , led by leaders in their fields , that will look at everything from taking first steps in the world of agriculture to the effect of Brexit on our future . We once again welcome an exceptional panel of speakers for our evening conference which never fails to stimulate lively debate and discussion , I ’ m very much looking forward to it .
He added : “ This year ’ s debate centres on ‘ Feeding Britain and the World – is GM the answer ?’ Despite being enthusiastically embraced by agriculture in much of the rest of the world , here in Britain and parts of Europe we have shunned genetically modified crops and the production of them . We are going to look at why this may be and explore where we go from here . GM foods are often a contentious and potentially emotive issue but are they inexorably linked to future proofing our food supplies ? The days debate will no doubt raise strong points from both sides of the fence .”
