Low Stonehills Farm The family love to go on walks and because it is a mixed farm they have a lot of wildlife, currently you will be able to see - and they actively encourage - grey partridge, corn buntings, lapwings, reed buntings, skylarks, yellow wagtails, yellowhammers, tree sparrows – some of which species are now seriously endangered. Geoff certainly knows and cares about, the birds on his land. They also have several buzzards that help keep the local rabbit population under control. ‘Geoff is a very keen ambassador for farming and is always looking to inform and educate the public at every opportunity’ 50 Aug/Sep 2015 www.farmers-mart.co.uk INSPIRATION FROM RSPB Geoff speaks highly of Chris Thompson from the RSPB, whom he says “has been an inspiration as he really understands the countryside and wildlife and how it can fit in with farming in a practical way.” They have 10 hectares of specific grass and wild flowers, leave 10 hectares for summer fallow which is ideal for the lapwings, stubble turnips are grown for the sheep (again, wildlife love this for both shelter and pickings) and clover leys pasture for sheep grazing. A KEEN AMBASSADOR As well as working on the harmony between farm and countryside, Geoff is a very keen ambassador for farming and is always looking to inform and educate the public at eve
