an Oxford Downs judge – you
will often see him chatting
with the public whenever they
approach him. The agricultural
show calendar plays a large
part of the Riby’s annual
diary.

Geoff believes that the farm
should be run and function
as a team effort and nothing
demonstrates this more as
when he took on an apprentice
from Scarborough. James Bell
is 17 - and until he had passed
his driving test his parents used
to drop him at the local station
and Geoff would pick him up at

the other end and bring him to
work. Completing his small hard
working team is his wife Jackie
and son Christopher and with
him on the arable side is Steve
Harrison.
Geoff is a very unassuming
but confident character and as I
found out, he has a great store
of knowledge; but the real key
to his success is his clear love
of the countryside, that calm,
collected approach to farming
and never failing to appreciate
the importance of the team
around him - which includes all
the animals as well as his own
family.
Geoff’s future ambitions
include expanding his
Shorthorns to 200 or more,
continuing to help the
countryside and wildlife flourish,
and remain the best possible
ambassador for this kind of
farming.
We can only applaud those
ambitions.
