‘Ian learned
the farming
business while
still at school’
commitment. Now 85, he still
helps Ian out although being
officially retired. Sadly Ian lost
his mum, Audrey, four years
ago.
Ian learned the farming
business while still at school
and indeed had a baptism of
fire when his father was ill for
a time and he was suddenly
faced with milking 40 cows in
a byre and then helping on the
farm. He then joined the farm
full time after leaving school in
1978 and after a while began
helping a local contractor. Six
years later Ian started his own
contracting business to support
the farm.
When his father retired, he
and Ian decided to let the pub
go in order to concentrate on
the growing farm business.
Since Cliff and Audrey retired
the pub has seen several
landlords come and go.
The Mc Coys of Cleveland
Tontine fame took it on in
December 2013 and after a
tasteful refurbishment, have
now made it into a busy pub
and restaurant, so much so
that additional parking etc is
needed and - as Crathorne
estate promised a few years
ago - they are helping Ian
move lock, stock
