FROM INITIATION TO ALUM : A JOURNEY OF LIFELONG SISTERHOOD
by Karina de Geronimo , KDChi Alumna
I was elated to be inducted , despite having graduated in 2017 and already being an active member of the SoCal Alum Chapter for about a year . My knowledge of the induction came after joining the SoCal Alum Chapter ; however , they postponed it until after my enrollment to explore the possibility of welcoming other sisters graduating that year . This presented an exciting opportunity to be part of a ceremonial experience again , rekindling the feeling of initiation . Connecting with previously unfamiliar sisters from various schools across the nation , all converging in LA postgraduation , was a delight .
As the only Alum from SoCal who both studied and remained in California , my connection with these sisters grew profound . The warmth with which they embraced me as a newcomer eclipsed relationships I ' ve held since my KDX entry in 2013 . The marvel of forging such close bonds with people based solely on our shared affiliation highlights the power of a common thread that evolves into multifaceted connections .
Our commitment to community engagement persists , and we actively undertake service projects . Nurturing our local undergrad chapters and providing guidance through their undergraduate journey remains a core part of our mission .

Embracing the Alum chapter experience is enriching , and I wholeheartedly endorse it for all graduates . Remarkably , participation in the Alum chapter , particularly in SoCal , is less time-intensive than undergraduate involvement . Meetings , although not obligatory , encourage a twice-monthly presence . The structure involves one eboard and one general meeting per month , with the convenience of virtual gatherings . Our proactive approach to agendas fosters inclusivity ; missing a meeting simply entails adding your input , comments , and reviewing the updated agenda the following day . Eboard roles are assumed only by those with the bandwidth . Whether joining socials or focusing on community service , there ' s room for personal customization .
As the Social Media Manager , I disseminate chaptercreated content , with captivating captions crafted by our skilled Public Relations Officer . Additionally , I amplify posts from other chapters or siblings when suitable . I initiated a tradition of reaching out to alumni for contributions , although this is not obligatory on a monthly basis . I propose engaging with your local Alum chapter at least once to gain insight into its distinct structure . Undoubtedly , every Alum Chapter showcases its unique essence . We enlisted for a lifelong commitment , beyond four years , embracing the truth that our sisterhood endures .
