What the YLD Has Been Doing
Starting the new year with a bang , after much anticipation , the YLD mixed-n-mingled at its Kick-Off event held at State Street Eatery on January 19 . We had such a great turnout ! It was such a pleasure to meet so many new young lawyers and to see them becoming involved and excited to take on leadership positions . Thanks to Cori Coser and her planning committee for all their hard work in putting it together !
On February 9 , the YLD welcomes the return of the acclaimed
Mentoring Event at CineBistro . Space is limited , and I encourage you all to sign up ! Forty young lawyers and ten mentors will engage in discussions to foster mentoring relationships and encourage young lawyers to reach out to senior lawyers for advice and counsel on challenges typically faced by new lawyers . Thanks to all our distinguished lawyers and judges who are serving as mentors : Judge Dana Moss , Judge Maria Ruhl , Nancy Cason , Julie Luhrsen , Sean Byrne , Chip Gaylor , Martin Garcia , Altom Maglio , Jennifer Maglio , and David Wallace . Thank you to Michael Cowgill , Warren Chin , and their committee for planning such a great event ! Stay tuned for future mentoring opportunities throughout the year , including more one-on-one networking at a Table of 8 .
The YLD is actively planning the return of our annual High School Mock Trial Competition to be held in person on February 18 at the Judge Lynn N . Silvertooth Judicial Center . The event is spearheaded by co-chairs and YLD Directors Jennifer Hicks and Cori Coser and is a tremendous undertaking . It is expected to be an all-day event with at least six schools participating and numerous volunteers – attorneys and judges alike ! If you have the opportunity , I strongly encourage you to volunteer . Not only is it meaningful to the students participating , but it is also incredibly rewarding to watch the future generation of lawyers practice their litigation skills !
