The Vampire scoffed . “ Is that what you really want ? To be tied to me for all eternity ?” He ran his hand through his hair . “ You don ’ t even know what you ’ re saying .”
“ Yes , I do .” James stood her ground . That wasn ’ t exactly true , though . She didn ’ t know what she was saying . She was acting on pure instinct , her fight or flight kicking in . All she cared about was saving herself from imminent destruction . It didn ’ t matter what she traded in return . It ’ s not like she had anything to hold onto , anyway .
“ I ’ ll do anything you want me to .” And she meant it . She would do anything he wanted . Not only because he could give her what she wanted , but because she liked being in his power .
And he was in hers . The Vampire closed in on her . He seemed to be all around , consuming her . Before she could comprehend what was happening , he was in front of her , his hand gently wrapping around the back of her neck . His thumb stroked her cheek .
“ This is what you want ?” he asked . His voice was low and hoarse .
“ Yes ,” she whispered . Her eyes were closed , but she could feel him staring at her , wanting to drink her in . The anticipation almost hurt . She focused on the feeling of his fingers on her neck , the way they were both gentle and firm . She wanted to capture this moment forever . Everything would change once she was different . Nothing would feel the same . So , she took this moment to remember it , to remember what it felt like to be human . James opened her eyes and gazed up at him .
