“ You ’ d kill someone else just so you could live forever ,” he said . His face was close to hers now . If he had breath , she would have been able to feel it against her cheeks .
“ You don ’ t have to kill ,” James said , her voice faltering .
“ No ,” the Vampire said , “ but it is easier said than done .”
“ Then teach me ,” she found herself saying . She leaned toward him , her breasts brushing against his chest . They had a connection . She felt it from the moment they met . She could see it in the way his eyes always trailed down to her lips , fixated on the artery in her neck . And although she was surprised by her confidence , almost afraid of the way she was willing to use his obvious attraction to her advantage , she couldn ’ t stop . She was too far gone , too close to her goal .
The Vampire was startled by her touch . His eyes widened and he recoiled from her as if she were an open flame : dangerous and tempting . “ Don ’ t ,” he said simply . But James could sense his hunger . She felt it quite plainly when she pushed herself against him . “ I could be your companion ,” James pleaded . “ I could stay with you .” Is that really what she wanted ? It didn ’ t matter . The words were out there , rolled right off her tongue without a second thought . There wasn ’ t much time left . This was her last chance .
