dead yet – it was that she was going to die at all . It was a thought she couldn ’ t comprehend . Dying . Ceasing to exist . What would become of her mind when her body gave up ? She didn ’ t believe in heaven . She wouldn ’ t ascend to a higher existence when her time came , that much she knew for sure . She began to resent her humanity , her weakness . Her body was so fragile . It was so easy to break it down and to poison it . To damage it beyond repair .
She grabbed the jacket and pulled it over her arms . The wool inside instantly warmed her . It was too big , of course , and the sleeves slipped over her hands . The bottom rested on the ground . She was small . So small . “ Why did you come here then ?” she dared to ask . He pondered this for a moment , shoved his hands in his pockets . “ I like you .” He shrugged . James laughed . A sick , strangled sound escaped her throat . “ Fuck you .” He smiled , bowing his head . His fangs just barely grazed his bottom lip , which was smooth and pink . James wondered whose fresh blood gave him that color and if he killed them after he sucked it out of them . Did he even drink from humans ? She didn ’ t know the answer . She didn ’ t know anything about him , actually . She didn ’ t even know his name .
James looked away . She didn ’ t want to think about his mouth . Or how his fangs , sharp and smooth , would feel as they punctured her skin , diving into her body and her veins , replacing her life source with something else , something that would make her powerful – indestructible .
