TULSA , Okla . – Tulsa ’ s National Fiddler Hall of Fame ( NFHoF ) will honor its 2018 inductees at a gala concert event featuring Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder with special guests Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper March 30 at 7 p . m . at the ORU Mabee Center . Skaggs , a recipient of 15 Grammy Awards , will receive a NFHoF Special Recognition Award that evening .
“ Ricky Skaggs has taken the fiddle throughout the world . He ’ s exposed so many people to fiddle music ,” explained NFHoF president , Bob Fjeldsted . “ He ’ s been a great warrior for that cause .”
A member of the Grand Ole Opry for 35 years , Skaggs has been playing music for over 50 years , acquiring countless awards in the process . His latest release , Hearts Like Ours , features Skaggs and his wife , Sharon White , performing duets on handpicked country love songs . Considered a pioneer in both country and bluegrass music , Skaggs has released over 30 albums and performed thousands of live shows .

The mission of the NFHoF is “ to honor individuals for their contributions to fiddling , to preserve , educate and promote the art of fiddling and its historical and social significance .” Bob Wills was the first NFHoF inductee in 2007 .

“ Bob Wills was a fiddler who put Tulsa on the map , and Tulsa made him famous , so it was a mutual deal ,” said Fjeldsted . “ He was our first inductee . He brought a lot of fame to Tulsa .”
Among the 2018 inductees is 101-year-old fiddler Violet Hensley from Yellville , Ark . Fjeldsted spent the day with her recently when she was in Tulsa to promote the NFHoF event .
“ We drove all over the place . Three TV stations , two radio stations , and she hung right there with us at 101-years old . She was playing her fiddle and clogging ,” Fjeldsted recalled . “ She still works at Silver Dollar City . She ’ s been there 51 years !” For more information , visit nationalfiddlerhalloffame . org .
