TULSA, Okla. – Avocado farmer.
Philanthropist. LGBTQ advocate.
Husband. Surfer. Broadway star.
Pro-marijuana mouthpiece. All
things you may or may not know
can be attributed to acoustic pop
star Jason Mraz, who makes his
highly anticipated Tulsa return
to the Chapman Music Hall stage
at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 29.
Mraz, though far removed from
his budding youth when he was
pinning hits like “The Remedy”
and “Curbside Prophet”, hasn’t
lost his knack for writing feel-
good chart toppers. His last
album, a collaborative effort
with all-girl band Raining
Jane entitled Yes! didn’t have
any No. 1 material on it, but
“Love Someone” and “Hello,
You Beautiful Thing” both
demonstrated his ability to craft
coming of age love songs; not
coincidentally, Mraz married his
longtime girlfriend Tina Carano
in late 2015, not long after the
Yes! Tour concluded.
On this solo acoustic tour, Jason
will pull songs from all over the
catalog, including international
faves like “I’m Yours”, “I Won’t
Give Up” and “93 Million Miles”
among others, as well as plenty
of stories and anecdotes. One of
the most gifted male vocalists of
our time (with Grammy Awards
to prove it), Mraz also dabbles
in light humor and audience
interaction when give attention
on intimate concert settings.
During a recent interview with
NPR, Mraz shared he’s only got
one more album left under his
current recording contract, and
that he’s anticipating semi-
retirement.
“I want to get out of the
competition that pop music can
be sometimes,” he said. “I want to
finish that up and continue to be
a performer and a writer, but just
do it on my own time.”
At press time, Mraz announced
a Good Vibes Summer Tour with
a band comprised of Raining
Jane and other members of
his previous touring bands,
including percussionist Toca
Rivera. The nearest tour stop to
northeast Oklahoma is in Kansas
City, Mo., on Aug. 31.
