Hallock STILLWATER, Okla. - ‘America’s Greatest Homecoming Celebration’ is this month in Stillwater. The OSU Cowboys will play Baylor, Oct. 14. But, Homecoming is about much more than OSU football, and there is a lot to celebrate in the week leading up to the big game. Homecoming week will officially kick off when the library fountain goes orange, October 8, but students are already decorating for Walkaround. Walkaround is one of the longest and most colorful Cowboy traditions, where thousands of people ‘walk around’ to see the sororities and fraternities decorate their houses with huge, stationary floats celebrating their hopes and dreams, values for the future and, of course, football. Students will spend more than a month crafting these art installations before Walkaround starts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13. The residence halls are getting in on the action with something called Orange Ambiance, and this year’s Walkaround is sure to be an immersive sensory experience. Willie’s Saloon will be running multiple stages with DJ Travis Trapp and Suede Panther. Stonewall Tavern will present The Admirals at 9:30 p.m. The Admirals are a pseudo-local, high-energy rock band with great original songs and a flare for dramatic performance that will fit right in the evening’s general, party atmosphere. Or, you can wander Downtown to catch Bruce Benson play Zannotti’s Wine Bar at 7 p.m. Saturday before the game, the Sea of Orange Parade starts at 8 a.m. More than 120 entries from student groups and the community will… well… parade down Main Street from 9th to Hall of Fame Avenue to support the Cowboy Friday night, the party will spil l out into the rest of the big town, too, with shows at some Stillwater’s best venues. The Joe State Homecoming Tailgate, Friday night at Eskimo Joe’s, starts at 5:30 p.m. with a free, all-ages concert with Cody Canada, Mike McClure and The Damn Quails. family. There’s also the traditional spirit walk, reunions and tailgating events all over campus. The big event will be Sunday, Oct. 14 at Boone Pickens Stadium when the OSU Cowboys take on Baylor. Win or lose, it’s going to be a good time. www.thecurrentbuzz.net | 17
