TULSA, Okla. - With the recent
thefts that have taken place, this
installment of “Oklahoma Gold”
takes a painful, but necessary
look at the issue in an effort to
stem the tide of losses that affect
us all.
On the whole most of us are
vigilant when it comes to
protecting our families and
property. The sad truth is that
we all let our guard down from
time to time that gives thieves
the time to take anything and
everything of value. Whether
it’s your hobby, your business
or your family, chances are you
would do everything within your
power to safeguard what is yours
come Hell or high water.
Given the loss and heartbreak

and Irma, we have seen people
from all walks of life do the
impossible in the face of harm
to come to the aid of others.
That said, we here in Oklahoma
also help our own as evidenced
by recent fundraisers to help
offset the cost of replacement
of equipment stolen. While a
giving heart is part of our nature
as humans, we must own our
individual responsibility in the
process. In brief:
1. Never EVER leave anything
of value in plain
sight unattended.
2. When loading in or
out, buddy up leaving one or
more inside and outside
of venue and guard
gear until loaded
and secure.
3. Do not leave in
your car or truck
overnight.
4. Assume that no place is
completely theft proof.
Breaking it down
to dollars and sense
Case in point: you’re
insured
Replacement Value =
$5,000
Less deductible =
$1,000 out of pocket
Estimated time
frame = 30 days
www.thecurrentbuzz.net
Case in point: you’re not insured
Replacement value = $5,000
Total loss costing an additional
$5,000 for replacement + loss of
earned income
Estimated time frame = 5.5 years
+ loss of income until replaced
Options : Budget dollars held
back per job paychecks in
savings
Example: $50 per month x 12
months = $600 per year for
protection
The above figures are
used only as “what
if” scenarios. The
hard truth is hard to
ignore: thieves make a
living waiting for us
all to make that one
mistake. The world today
is changing in a way that
asked all those who are
willing and able to
take extra steps to
reduce or eliminate
those mistakes and
protect what is our
last bastion of livelihood
- live performance.
In closing, know this:
if any one of us lives
long enough we will
all lose someone or
something.
“If it has to happen,
let it be minimal and
let it be the latter.”
