Dedication ceremony held at McWane River Walk

By Josie Sellers
A dedication ceremony was held Sept . 28 for the new McWane River Walk .
“ Any government that changes its community doesn ’ t do so without the help of the public ,” said Dane Shryock , president of the Coshocton County Board of Commissioners . “ This is a great day for Coshocton .”
The McWane River Walk starts at Skip ’ s Landing and is part of the county ’ s vision for improving the County Road 1A area .
“ McWane recognized the value of this and how it can help improve the life of its employees , residents and visitors to Coshocton ,” Shryock said . “ We are working hard to improve our community and make it attractive to people who want to live here or visit here . Outdoor opportunities like trails and walking paths are known to improve

people ’ s mental and physical health .”
Tom Crawford , McWane Ductile VP / GM Ohio , was impressed with what their donation was able to help accomplish .
“ There are a lot of cool things going on in our area ,” he said . “ There is downtown revitalization , this river walk , the amazing flowers from Coshocton in Bloom and the Eagle Ridge Disc Golf Course that thousands of people have already played on , and it only started in July . We are happy to be part of and add to the momentum of what ’ s going on .”
Crawford said this project started with Mary Beck , the commissioners administrator / project manager , asking for a $ 75,000 donation for a dog park . The idea didn ’ t quite fit the company ’ s vision of helping families and children , but they were up for discussing other ideas . The river walk concept was discussed along with a donation of $ 500,000 . Crawford brought the idea to Phillip McWane , McWane chairman , who reviewed the proposal at the general managers meeting .
“ Within 10 minutes of looking at it , he decided to

give to this community ,” Crawford said .
McWane was honored to join the celebrating .
“ I knew I was coming here for a ribbon cutting , but I didn ’ t know it was already complete ,” he said .
“ It looks great . We are tremendously grateful to be able to give back to a place we call home . This isn ’ t just about brick and mortar . It ’ s about making a stronger , healthier , more vibrant community for all of us .”
