Tips to help keep the holiday spirits up , and the waste down :
Food Waste Reduction : Avoid holiday food waste by planning meals carefully and composting scraps . Share leftovers or donate excess food to shelters .
Repurpose Holiday Decor : Reuse last year ’ s holiday decorations or create new ones from recycled or natural materials like pinecones , branches , and twine .
Compost Leaves & Yard Waste : Instead of bagging up fallen leaves , turn them into compost or mulch to nourish your garden .
Recycle Paper & Packaging : Fall is a time for back-to-school shopping and seasonal sales . Be sure to recycle cardboard boxes , paper , and packaging .
