Coshocton SWCD holds annual meeting , banquet

The Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District held its 82nd annual meeting and banquet at Lake Park Pavilion Thursday evening , Oct . 17 . More than 180 area residents and special guests were in attendance . A buffet dinner was served by Theo ’ s Restaurant of Cambridge preceding the meeting .
The Ohio Soil & Water Conservation Commission held an election for one supervisor to be elected to the Coshocton SWCD Board of Supervisors . Beth Mullen was elected for a three-year term starting Jan . 1 , 2025 .
Andy Vance , executive director of the Poultry Science Association , was the featured speaker for the evening . Vance shared his unique perspective on the industry , having spent significant time as a farm radio broadcaster at WRFD-AM , the Buckeye Ag Radio Network , and ABN Radio , and later as a writer for Feedstuffs , the leading trade journal for the feed and livestock sectors .
Coshocton Soil and Water Conservation District announced the 2024 Outstanding Conservation Farmer of the Year Award which went to Bruce Stevens . The Rock Hill Farm consists of 188 acres and is located in Washington Township . The Stevens family raises 32 cow / calf pairs which graze on 60 acres of pasture . They also utilize 70 acres of hay and 45 acres of row crops . Conservation practices installed on the Stevens farm include three spring developments , one water well , eight watering facilities , 2,965 feet of pipeline , one waste storage structure consisting of 5,504 cubic feet , one roof and cover covering 2,080 square feet , one concrete heavy use protection covering 800 square feet , 90 feet of underground outlet , 200 feet of access road , 11,411 feet of fence , 11 acres of Herbaceous Weed Treatment , and an active comprehensive nutrient management plan for 67 acres . The Rock Hill Farm hosted a stop on the county officials tour in July 2021 . Bruce Stevens is a Coshocton Co . Farm Bureau member and attends the Chalfant Church . He has also been a Washington Township Trustee for 28 years . He has two daughters and one son , with nine grandchildren .

Tom Heading from the Coshocton is Blooming committee presented the award for the City of Coshocton Big Tree award to Becky Morris . The winning tree was a maple tree which measured 206 inches in circumference with a vertical height of 92 feet and average crown spread of 85.5 feet .
sponsored the Coshocton County Junior Fair Hay Show with Cassie Putt from TMK Bakersville serving as the Official Judge . The 2024 hay show winners recognized were Shiloh Kinzel , River View FFA , daughter of Andy and Missy Kinzel , won alfalfa , grass and light mixed hay class , and Wade Thompson , Ridgewood FFA , son of Tom and Denise Thompson won the mixed gay class . Winners received a rosette and a $ 25 cash award for each class .

The winning tree was a maple tree located at the Becky Morris residence which measured 206 ” in circumference with a vertical height of 92 ’ and average crown spread of 85.5 ’.
The winners of the mystery photo contest , which was part of the Coshocton SWCD display at the Coshocton County Fair and on social media , were Andrew Tumblin and Barb Banbury . The mystery photo was of the Wentz Farm in White Eyes Township . Their names were drawn from five correct entries .
David Lapp was recognized for completing his 30th year as a board supervisor at the end of this year . He was thanked for his loyal service and was presented with a 30-year service certificate . The meeting adjourned after door prizes were drawn .
